האלבום החדש שכולל 12 שירים הוקלט בצרפת עם המפיק ג'ו צ'יקארלי. האלבום בעל מסרים ברורים וחדים, אי אפשר היה לצפות לסחורה אחרת ממוריסיי, מאז ומעולם רוק סטאר פרובוקטיבי שהסתבך לא פעם בשערוריות עם אישי ציבור ואף עם המשטרה עקב התבטאויות כאלו ואחרות שנוגעות לאמונותיו, ביו היתר הצמחוניות- אם את/ה אוכל בשר מוריסיי לא יהסס להגיד לך בפנים שאתה רוצח.
Earth Is the Loneliest Planet
האלבום מכיל בתוכו קריצה לעבר כשניתן לשמוע בו מזכרות מהסמית'ס ומאלבומי הסולו הישנים של מוריסיי, אבל גם מכיל ניצוצות של טעם מוזיקלי מובחר ובוגר יותר. האלבום כולל בתוכו השפעות אירופאיות רבות, צלילי הפלמנקו, החצוצרה והאקורדיון מתנגנים ומבשמים את השירים בניחוח אותנטי. עם זאת הרעיון הכללי של שילוב סגנונות מוזיקה שונים יכול היה להיות מוצלח יותר אם החלק האינסטרומנטלי היה פחות נוקשה ועם יותר מעוף .
שיר הנושא של האלבום שגם נושא את שמו- World Peace is none of your Business, פונה ישירות למאזין שמוריסיי מחשיב בתור האזרח הטוב שהולך להצביע בבחירות, והוא מעלה סוגיות כגון להיכן נעלם כספי המיסים שלנו, ומוחה על תהליך ההתעשרות הגובר של העשירים, על חשבון אנשי העם כמובן.
בשיר השלישי I’m Not a Man מוריסיי מתריס על דבר די מעניין- הסטיגמות החברתיות שגברים נאלצים להתמודד עמן כיום, בין היתר זו של הגבר המאצ'ואיסטי הלוחם והמכור לעבודתו. אז לנוכח אלה מוריסי טוען שהוא...לא גבר, כי אינו עומד בקריטריונים הנ"ל וגם כי אינו מוכן להרוג או לאכול חיה.
השיר Istanbul שמספר על מערכת יחסים סבוכה ומורכבת של אב ובן, הוא אחד מהמקומות היחידים שבהם הנגינה נשמעת מרחפת יותר ולא מונוטונית, הנגנים מספיק חזקים בכדי לסחוף את השיר כולו. Staircase at the University מציג צד קצבי וקליל יותר אך עדיין לא חוסך בביקורת חברתית. השיר מספר על בחורה שלומדת באוניברסיטה ומאכזבת את המשפחה שלה רק כי לא מקבלת כל הזמן מאיות. בסוף השיר יש תוספת אינסטרומנטלית של גיטרה בסגנון ספרדי, מעין ישות נפרדת מהשיר שיכולה הייתה להיות נחמדה, אך בפועל מתקבלת תחושה של חוסר חיבור.
Kiss Me a Lot
כמה מהשירים יותר טובים והומוגניים, Kiss me a Lot הוא שיר בניחוח דרמטי וסגנון המוזיקה הספרדית מלווה את כל אורכו בתרועת חצוצרות ובפריטת גיטרה. כמעט בסתירה אליו יש את השיר התשיעי באלבום Smiler with Knife שנשמע כאילו הוא לקוח מפסקול של סרט אימה ספרדי, שיר שמגוון את האלבום ומעניק לו ניחוח שנון ומרתק.
המפיק של האלבום, זוכה 10 פרסי הגראמי ג'ו צ'יקארלי התראיין וסיפר שהוא לא ידע שמוריסיי יהיה כל כך מעורב באלבום. הוא סיפר שהוא היה מקבל הודעות עם הערות בסגנון "בנקודה 2:30 בבקשה תגביר את הגיטרה,היא לא חדה מספיק" או "בשיר הזה הקול שלי זקוק לטיפול שונה". בראיון גם סיפר צ'יקארלי על תהליך העבודה עם מוריסיי "מפיקים מנוסים רגילים שהזמר בא, עושה את העבודה שלו בשירה והולך. זה לא המקרה עם מוריסיי,הוא מעורב, יש לו רגישות וסגנון עבודה משלו".
את מוריסיי מלווה באלבום להקה המורכבת מכמה נגנים מרשימים ביותר, בהם הגיטריסט והמנהל המוזיקלי בוז בורר. ג'ס טביאס, גם הוא גיטריסט שעבד בעבר עם אלאניס מוריסט. הבאסיסט סלומון ווקר, המתופף מאט ווקר ונגן הקלידים גוסטבו מנזור. צ'יקארלי הגדיר אותם כקבוצה מרשימה שמוריסיי ממש סמך עליהם בתהליך העבודה.
האלבום הגיע לכמה מקומות מכובדים במצעדים ברחבי העולם, ביניהם מצעד הבילבורד והמצעד של האלבומים האוסטרלים. מעריצי מוריסיי יקבלו את המנה ההגונה של הביקורת והמסרים שהם אוהבים, ואילו אוהבי הסמית'ס או מאזינים נייטרלים עשויים למצוא מספר שירים שיתאימו לאוזניהם וגם עלולים להתבלבל מהליריקה. אבל זו הדרך של מוז, פרובוקצית הפופ המוכרת והאהובה בעולם, ככה הוא משגר את עצמו לעולם ואנו צריכים לבחור אם לקחת אותו כפי שהוא.
כבר מתחילת הקריירה שלו נחשב מוריסי כשחצן ויהיר, אך מהר מאוד התברר גם כצעיר שאפתן שיודע מה הוא רוצה ויוצר אומנות מופלאה. האלבום החדש לא ישנה את פני המוזיקה, אבל מוריסיי והסמית'ס כבר שינו. אלבומי הסולו של מוריסיי רק ממשיכים את המורשת שלו, זה לא יותר ולא פחות מאלבום מוריסיי קלאסי וזו כל ההמלצה שתצטרכו עליו.
